About
Thank you for visiting! I’m a Seattle painter, educator, and writer focusing on color in abstracted narrative paintings and in day-to-day life.
I recently earned an MFA at Liverpool John Moores University in England, in Transart Institute’s program. My research and thesis centered around a concept I call Slow Color—deepening aesthetic and personal relationships with color, and deliberately using color in artmaking and daily life for beneficial purposes. As an extension of my graduate research I wrote the book Slow Color Project: Using Color to Find Meaning, Focus, and Joy, illustrating the book with my paintings.
I am an alumna of Modern Color Atelier with Kimberly Trowbridge through Gage Academy of Art. I have studied art at several other schools, including University of Washington, Pratt Fine Arts Center, and Photographic Center Northwest.
My aesthetic influences also come from unexpected places: I hold a culinary degree from Seattle Culinary Academy, a school with a strong sustainability focus. At SCA I learned to pair the aesthetic, visceral experiences of cuisine with thematic concepts and environmental significance.
I have also worked two years as a food stylist/photographer and writer for Edible Seattle Magazine, and as a teacher of various subjects ranging from writing to painting to cooking for over a decade.
In my personal life I’ve also studied Chinese 5 Elements for over 20 years. Feng shui, Chinese face reading, Chinese Medicine—all of these have an impact on design and color, and how color and images affect our very bodies, minds and spirits as we experience them. Art can heal, in subtle and powerful ways. I feel like many of us could use more color in our lives, and each color is important in different ways. I use color in paintings with care. Each work of art we have in our spaces can hold powerful significance.
I live in the northwest area of Seattle with my small family of makers.
